Warranty Program

Westcoast Solid Wood Furniture is extremely proud of the workmanship of our product. We realize that purchasing our furniture is an investment in quality that will last for generations to come.

The Westcoast Solid Wood Furniture limited warranty period of one year begins at the time of receipt of the furniture being delivered to an Authorized Dealer and the original consumer. If a manufacturing defect is discovered during this time it is important you promptly notify us. Westcoast Solid Wood Furniture will then at their sole discretion, repair or replace, any piece or part found by our suppliers to be defective in material or workmanship.

Modifications done by a dealer, the consumer or other parties will void this warranty. This warranty applies only when the furniture purchased is for normal indoor household use (or is gifted as a normal household purpose.) In addition, damage from misuse, neglect, incorrect maintenance or abuse is not covered under the warranty. It also does not apply to commercial use which includes rental, business or institutional.

Wood
Taking quality care of your wood furniture will ensure your enjoyment for years to come. We use quality hardwoods in the production of our furniture and purchase our wood through companies that are FSC certified. As wood has water as a component of its makeup your furniture will shrink and expand with changes in relative humidity and temperature, these are normal and expected changes throughout the year. To lessen the effects of wood movement avoid placing your furniture directly in front of heat sources such as fireplaces or radiators. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, use a humidifier in the cooler drier seasons and air conditioners in the warmer seasons. Relative humidity should be maintained at approximately 40 – 45% to lessen the effects of shrinking or expanding. A humidifier is always recommended in a home with solid wood products. Seasonal movement on solid wood products are not considered warranty issues.

Finishes
Our products are stained, sealed and lacquered (with the exception of natural stain) with high quality products. We use a catalyzed lacquer as the final process to protect your furniture against normal use. This lacquer can take up to 30 days to complete its curing time and we suggest that during this time you take extra care of your furniture. Although we have sourced out a very durable finishing process any finish will be stressed if not cared for properly. Burns, cuts, scratches, dents, watermarks and sun damage will affect the finish quality and therefore not covered by warranty. Also cleaning with detergents, abrasives or other improper cleaning agents will breakdown the finish. The preceding actions are not covered by this warranty. Minor variations in colour and wood grain will occur between furniture pieces and these are normal. These variations or differences between floor model samples or stain samples or printed illustrations are not covered by this warranty. Unfinished product, dealer finished product or product stained with customer supplied stain is not covered by this warranty.

Chairs and Fabric
Our chairs are covered limited warranty period of one year. Chairs covered under this warranty are for normal residential use. We will at their sole discretion, repair or replace, any piece or part found by our suppliers to be defective in material or workmanship. In addition, damage from misuse, neglect, incorrect maintenance or abuse is not covered under this warranty. We does not warranty the durability or colourfastness of the selected fabrics, nor fading, stains from spills, or improper cleaning.

Helpful Hints to Ensure Enjoyment of your Purchase

  • Avoid direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time.

  • Do not use detergents, abrasives cleaners, or other improper cleaining agents, wipe your furniture with a slightly damp cloth in the direct of the grain and dry with a soft cloth wiping in the direction of the grain.
  • Avoid placing furniture directly in front of radiators, fireplaces or other heat sources.

  • Try to maintain humidity levels of approximately 40-45%.

  • Avoid impact by hard or heavy objects.

  • Wipe off liquid spills immediately.

  • Keep extra table leaves as close as possible to the table itself, damp basements or hot dry attics can cause the leaves to expand or contract.
  • Stains will darken slightly over time, to lessen the effect use your *extra leaves* occasionally to ensure they have light exposure as well.

  • Avoid placing hot items directly on the furniture, it will harm the protective finish.

  • Select a location where your furniture will not be bumped and that doors and drawers can be easily opened without striking or bumping other objects.

  • Writing pads should be used on desks and table tops to protect against marking surfaces.

Furniture Safety

Secure Top-heavy Furniture
Existing furniture can be anchored with inexpensive anti-tip brackets. New furniture over 30” in height, such as dressers, are provided with anti-tip devices. Install them right away, following the manufacturer’s instructions included.

Remove Tempting Objects
Remove items that might tempt kids to climb, such as toys and remote controls, from the top of the TV and furniture.

Open Only One Drawer at a Time
Fully opening more than one drawer at a time, can cause tipping of the unit or put extra strain on the anti-tip brackets. Do not allow children to climb, sit or stand inside open drawers.

Use Sturdy Furniture
Televisions should only be placed on furniture designed to hold a television, such as television stands or media centres and pushed back away from the edge. Mount flat-screen TVs to the wall or to furniture to prevent them from toppling over. Televisions that are not wall mounted should still be anchored to the wall.

Follow Instructions
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to secure TVs and furniture properly.

Natural Wood Characteristics

All wood is a product of nature and much like a fingerprint, no two grain patterns are ever exactly alike.

The beauty of real wood is created by the infinite variation of grain, texture, and colour. This is especially true of hardwood and hardwood veneers; hardwoods are particularly noted for their variety in graining.

It is the nature of hardwoods to have mineral streaks (light brown, dark brown, to black areas in the wood) and great variation in graining. Since the number of mineral streaks varies from board to board, you may notice differences between cabinets, doors, drawers, or even on the same panel. These characteristics occur due to the fact that wood is a natural product and is affected by weather, climate, insects, birds, soil makeup, and natural growth patterns.

Mineral streaks or unusual graining are considered to be characteristic of natural wood and will not be considered to be a defect or reason for replacement. No special emphasis is made to select materials to match each other.
While this softening of the colour is not noticeable day to day, it will make a difference over an extended period of time. This is why furniture added at a later date may not exactly match previously purchased pieces. For the same reason, stain samples or display pieces may not represent the exact colour of furniture you receive.

Due to these natural and environmental factors, you will understand why we cannot be responsible for naturally occurring changes experienced by the wood in your furniture.

Joint Expansion

The natural occurrence of expansion and contraction, may also affect your doors, drawers and face frames. Expansion and contraction in doors, drawers and face frames can also open a joint line. This is not a flaw in the wood or manufacturing process. The finish will still protect the surface and the structural integrity of the joint will not be affected.
When purchasing painted (opaque) finishes, keep in mind that the natural occurrence of expansion and contraction greatly affects the overall look of the wood products. Because of this, it is perfectly normal to experience some separation at joints in wood. Although we take every precaution to minimize this, it is completely natural.

It is recommended that a humidity control system is incorporated in a home to reduce the possibility of expansion and contraction in wood products.

Panel Shrinkage

Door panels are prone to minor expansion and contraction as seasonal temperature and humidity changes occur in a home. The contraction or shrinkage of the centre door panel during low humidity periods may result in the appearance of an unfinished line along the edge of the centre panel. It is recommended that a humidity control system is incorporated in a home to reduce the possibility of expansion and contraction in wood products. Touch-up markers are made available to cover this edge line. Often times, touch-up may only be necessary within the first year.

Warpage

The natural occurrence of expansion and contraction, may also affect your doors, drawers and face frames. In some case doors may warp for a period of time until the home has in Corporated it’s humidity control system. Special hinges are available to readjust some of the warpage out of the door, until the humidity control system has regulated the environment. Remember, proper initial care and maintenance will ensure a lifetime of beauty and enjoyment of your new cabinets.

End Grain

End grains appear darker, as the stain is absorbed more due to the softness of the wood. This is most commonly seen on the Mortise and Tenon jointed doors. This is a natural reaction when the stain is applied, This is not a deemed as a defect.

Mineral Streaks

An olive or greenish-black or brown discolouration of undetermined cause in hardwoods, commonly caused by minerals which the tree extracts from the soil, or other injuries that occurred during the growth process. This is common in many types of wood products.

Aging

Wood continue to age in your home. Some wood products like Cherry will darken faster than others. For those who appreciate the unique features that wood products offer, This transformation will continue to bring rich lustres to the product as time moves forward.

Colour Variation

Our stain finishes are semi-transparent to enhance the natural beauty and character of our products. While we offer an extensive range of stains and colour tones, colour may vary based on the underlying wood products.

Furniture Care

Basic Care

  • Avoid placing furniture directly in front of radiators, heat runs or wood burning stoves.

  • For the sake of your furniture’s finish, do not let it bake in the sun’s strong rays day after day.

  • Use a humidifier and/or air conditioner keeping your home’s relative humidity between 25 and 35 percent to help protect your furniture from expanding and/or contracting.

  • Dust and polish with a clean soft cloth, and always wipe with the grain.

  • Always use coasters and hot pads for glasses and hot dishes. Wipe spills immediately, and be careful with solvents, perfume, alcohol and nail polish.

  • Avoid dragging hardwood furniture when moving, always lift where possible.
  • Be sure to store extra hardwood pieces, such as table leaves, in areas that contain the same relative humidity as your furniture. Storing in an upstairs closet rather than a damp and cold basement.

Nature

  • Everything that is in Nature is unique. The hardwood that makes up your furniture comes from trees such as oak , maple and pine. Each tree is unique, and each piece of wood looks different in grain and coloration.
  • Over time, from growing and absorbing minerals and elements, trees are given distinctive markings such as knots and pattern variations. These markings create distinction and character and are what define your hardwood as truly one of a kind.

  • For this reason, furniture that you see on display will not be exactly the same as the furniture you purchase and bring home.

Humidity

  • Hardwoods are made from natural materials and display a character that no synthetic material can duplicate.

  • Each piece of hardwood is literally one of a kind and responds naturally to changes in your home’s temperature and humidity.

  • Hardwood furniture does not take kindly to excessively dry air. If you live in a region that has low humidity, please be sure to increase your humidity levels by using humidifiers and/or air conditioners.

  • When hardwood is exposed to dry air, the natural moisture in the wood is dried, forcing the wood to contract or shrink slightly. This even does not weaken or destabilize your furniture, however, small gaps may appear in areas such as table tops.

  • Once the area’s humidity rises, these gaps will disappear as the moisture in the hardwood is regained.

Authenticity

  • Solid hardwoods are like silk, linen, and leather; solid hardwoods are natural and long lasting.

  • Your hardwood furniture will last a lifetime, and beyond. Synthetic products lack the natural feel and durability of hardwoods.

  • Many synthetic furniture products will advertise “All Wood” which does not mean you’re receiving a solid hardwood product. These products contain particle board and veneers, which technically are made of wood, but definitely not solid hardwood.
